Nearly 13000 athletes participate in 33 sports and 400 events in Olympics games. Being a host of Olympics games is very important to city as it get chance to promote its image worldwide. The host city is selected based on certain criteria, such as the ability of city to gain and transform the gains to future generation. When choosing a city to host Olympics games country is not considered but cities are. The host city contract the paper in which set out requirements of city to be selected emphasis on need for city to provide participants and athletes quality condition and city responsibly incorporate its future plans of economy, social, its own sports and environment in the Game concepts. Any city which would wish to host Olympics post its bid to International Olympics Commission and then it s considered applicant city. The applicant city must prove to be large enough to host Olympics. A large number of athletes, tourists, politicians and journalists are attracted by games. The city is required to show it can host games and sports both in venues and new stadiums, also be able provide necessary security needed. The city must be able to accommodate and house all participants and athletes and transport all people with reliable and consistency mass transport system. The host city must be able to convince its citizens that high expenses needed to cover Olympics are necessary in provision of new employments and improving city economic, social amenities and infrastructure. Also the city must have and maintain a highly transparency and positive media dissemination to carry out the games (International Olympics Committee, 2015) Data collection The data used in analysis of this report were obtained from secondary sources. Secondary data sources may be from census, past research, government website and companies websites. They collected by people not involved in research for other functions and in varying time periods. They may be available to current user in electronic, written or typed formats. It is mainly useful in gain insight in research hypothesis (Neuman W., 2014). The report used external secondary data from Australian Bureau Statistics, Melbourne City website and Victoria government website. The variable of interests were major events held in Melbourne and attendance, hotels in Melbourne, location, population and economic activities of Melbourne, sports area and stadiums and transport system. The data were entered in Excel software for cleaning and data analysis. Data analysis The data was analyzed using Excel software. The method of data analysis was descriptive, the use of graphs, measure of location and measure of dispersion. Descriptive research methodology can be qualitative or quantitative. When it involves collection of numerical data is quantitative and descriptive involves obtaining data from various sources describes certain event and data collection. If utilizes visuals and graphs to help one understands the data. Descriptive statistics are mainly used to reduce data in manageable and understandable form. They are used to organize and summarize patterns which emerge during data analysis (Glass Hopkins, 1984). Graphs such as histogram, bar graph and pie chart are used visualize the data, also frequency table. The measures of location such mean, mode and median are used to describe the data. In this report Excel software was used as tool for data analysis. Data presentation and Discussion Melbourne is capital of Victoria State suitable for business and economic activities. It connects firm and companies with Asia-pacific and outer world. It business performance is better compared to Singapore, New Zealand and Hong Kong. It is home for National Broadband Network, the largest telecommunication firm in the world making Melbourne technological heart for Australia. With eight world class universities, the population mainly speaks English language. The fours Economist intelligence unit has ranked Melbourne the most liveable in the whole world topping 140 cities. It scored well in areas of health, infrastructure, culture and environment and education. The city was first to cut taxes and adjust regulations. The data was obtained from secondary means and only covered the facilities needed for a city to host Olympics games. It did not cover how the resident will react if they are to support planning and hosting of Olympics using their taxes. A survey is therefore needed to study the reactions of Melbourne residents before one make inclusive decision.
